Borrowed from the Boys

Loyalty, hard-work ethic, and family. Those are the top three things that come to mind when it comes to Breezy Excursion, and one of the reasons why it was impossible for me to say no to a collaboration. Breezy Excursion was bred in San Jose just as I was and their clothing screams a certain kind of confidence. Since I do love myself some menswear and the brand has a bit more emphasis on men's clothing than women's, I was stoked to switch things up a little and borrow from the boys for this look.

Honestly I've pretty much outworn both these pieces in a variety of ways since I received them. The plaid shirt is so freaking comfortable and versatile, and the bucket hat is such an easy and effortless way to get away with messy hair or just add a little flavor to an outfit.

Though I did get a few stares with this look since it's really just a men's shirt styled as a dress rather than an actual longer tunic, it wasn't many more than I'm used to haha. But then again if you're not breakin' any necks, you need to up your fashion game. Don't worry though I was definitely wearing shorts underneath! I'd wear the shirt this way for a casual day of errands or a sunny day out. I've also worn it to the office paired with a flared scuba skirt for a more refined look.

I love that Breezy is a brand that isn't afraid to get a little explicit with it. They're loud and proud and this is displayed throughout their clothing with bold messages and styles. They've also had a number of dope collabs such as their latest collection that's dropped with Sick Wid It Records.

One element of this shirt I really dig is the preacher collar. It definitely makes it unique from all the other basic flannels out there and adds that little somethin-somethin'. To be honest the collar even makes it one of the few shirts that I'd actually button up all the way since it's not as claustrophobic.

Though this simple look could have been paired with just about any pair of kicks and still look good, I decided to go with my timbs to keep that street style vibe going. Since the entire fit was black and white, it also helped add a minimal pop of color.

I had the opportunity to shoot with Melissa de Mata recently which is where this lovely set came from. I love collaborating with new people because it's so dope to see the results when you are working with each individual and their own distinct perspective and artistic voice. I was both surprised and honored when Melissa reached out to me since she truly is a sorceress at utilizing natural light to really capture her subject, and she has a flawlessly unique creative eye. Be sure to check out her website and blog!

If there's one thing Breezy Excursion teaches us it's that you shouldn't be afraid to get a little loud with your personal style. Even with fashion, rules are made to be broken. Personal style is my favorite form of art and storytelling, and brands like Breezy really lead the way for a more open-minded form of self-expression. So break all the rules you want in your own fashion and f*ck the rest! We the best.
